Origins and construction

Queen Mary 2 was conceived at a time when many believed the era of ocean liners had passed. Cunard saw something different — an opportunity to create a new flagship that would blend heritage with innovation and redefine luxury travel at sea.

Envisioned as the largest, longest, and most ambitious ocean liner ever built, Queen Mary 2 became a landmark in modern engineering. Construction began in 2002 at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, where skilled craftsmen brought her to life with extraordinary attention to detail. Measuring 1,132 feet in length and standing 236 feet above the waterline, she was — and remains — a truly commanding sight.
